Al Bloushi wins Al Wathba Cup |
Trainer-cum-rider Yousuf Ahmad Al Bloushi tasted his first
success for the current endurance season when he won the FEI
CEI Two-star, 120pkm endurance ride on Saturday, January 24,
2009, at the Emirates International Endurance Village, Al
Wathba, Abu Dhabi.
Victory had eluded Yousuf this season and now he is content
having finished first in the Al Wathba Cup, which was
sponsored by Sorouh Real Estate PJSC, China Petroleum
Engineering & Construction Corporation and the Breeding
Stables of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of
Presidential Affairs, in Normandy.
The ride, which was attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad
Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of
the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, had a field of 118 riders, of whom
52 riders successfully covered the distance. The ride was run
in five phases of 32 km, 30 km, 24 km, 18 km and 16 km
respectively.
Yousuf was riding 11-year-old Roherty Bold Impression,
11-year-old bay gelding to complete the distance in 4:19:37
seconds riding on average speed of 20.05 kmph.
Dhahi Abdullah Khamis Al Dhahi, also from Al Reef Stables,
finished second riding 10-year-old grey gelding Omani Iman in
a time of 4:54:14 seconds with an average speed of 24:47 kmph.
Yousuf's younger brother 15-year-old Munder Ahmad Al Bloushi
finished third partnering 10-year-old Pure-Arabian chestnut
gelding Al Notarzn Zgaan. His recorded time was 5:00:43
seconds and the average riding speed was 23.94 kmph.
Adnan Sultan Saif Al Nuaimi, Director General, Abu Dhabi
Equestrian Club, addressing a press conference ahead of the
ride (he also announced the 100-km HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed
Al Nahyan Endurance Cup-for Privately Owned horses held on the
same day)_ stated that an amount of Dh 500,000 including a 4
WD car has been allocated as prizes. He also took the
opportunity to thank the sponsors and the media for their
continuous support.
