Al Kamda wins Sheikh Mansour cup

It was a day to remember for UAE local rider Ahmad Saeed Al Kamda as he savoured his first-ever endurance ride victory when he finished ahead of 60 others at the HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Endurance Cup, a 100-kilometre ride restricted to riders and owners of private stables.
The ride was held on Saturday, January 24, 2006, at the Emirates International Endurance Village, Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi and was run in four phases of 32 km, 30 km, 22 km and 16 km respectively and 13 riders completed the distance successfully.
Kamda was riding 11-year-old Part-Arab Bay Gelding Al Galyb HCF and covered the 100-km distance in 4:06:19 seconds riding on an average speed of 24.36 seconds.
It could have been a 1-2 for the Al Kamda family but Rashid Saeed Al Kamda, who finished holding hands with the eventual winner Ahmad Saeed, was eliminated after his horse Jeelan failed the post-ride vet check due to metabolism reasons.
Layla Abdul Aziz Al Redha finished second riding nine-year-old Pure-Arabian Chestnut mare Mafalda De Believue. She recorded a timing of 4:14:56 seconds and the average speed registered was 23.54 seconds. Third place went to Aliya Ali Mohammad Al Marzouqi who partnered 13-uyear-old chestnut mare Soughah (Shakira) and completed the ride in 4:16:07 seconds with an average speed of 23.43 seconds
"I have been involved with horses since a child and have been riding for well over a decade but this is my first win," said the 25-year-old Al Kamda., who profusely thanked HH Shekh Mansour for giving opportunities for riders from smaller stables ito take part in competitions.
The ride was sponsored by Sorouh Real Estate, China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation and the Breeding Stables of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs, in Normandy.
