The Abu Dhabi International Stakes (Group 2) is part of the
Emirates Equestrian Federation’s HH The President of the UAE
Cup series.
Wednesday’s races were attended by His Highness Sheikh
Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime
Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and Minister of Finance and
Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh
Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum along with many other Sheikhs
and officials from the UAE.
“My horse is still to settle down and get used to the
conditions here. He needed the run and that was my plan. Now
we will run in The Shadwell Dubai International Stakes (Group
1 PA), at Newbury Racecourse and hopefully he will be in peak
form by then,” said trainer Simpson after Fryvolous won as the
favourite.
Fryvolous under O’Donohoe beat back a strong challenge from
the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum owned El Rigoletto
ridden by Francois-Xavier Bertas.
Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the Emirates
Equestrian Federation, received the winning trophy from Sultan
Matar Al Muhairi, Event Management Executive, Abu Dhabi
Tourism Authority.
Sultan Matar Al Muhairi also picked the winning prize for two
racing fans at the fantastic Newmarket’s July Course, the
Etihad Airway’s sponsored trip for two for three days to Abu
Dhabi with a free stay at the Shangri La Hotel.
“Today’s race meeting was a huge success and the racing fans
here stayed on to watch and take part in the Abu Dhabi
International Stakes Purebred Arabian race. His Highness The
President’s horse Fryvolous, one of the highest ranked horses
currently in training, showed his ability and the fans enjoyed
the racing,” he said.
Earlier Goldikova was back to winning ways with a fine win in
the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes (Group 1) while Heaven Sent
ran a big race in second while Spacious was held in third.
Winning trainer Freddie Head said: “This is lovely. I don’t
think there was much pace on early and she has had to do it
the hard way. She saw a lot of daylight and I was a bit scared
in the last 400 yards but she kept on finding extra. “
