One of the biggest events on the UAE show jumping calendar,
the Dubai International CSI-W-Show Jumping Championship, held
every year in January, will be held this year from January 8
to 10, 2009 at the Emirates Equestrian Centre, Seih Salam,
besides International Endurance City, near Bab Al Shams,
Dubai. The Championship is being organized by the Dubai
Equestrian Club in coordination with the UAE Equestrian and
Racing Federation.
Two most important features of this three-day event are the
inclusion of the Qualifier for FEI World Cup which will be
held on Friday, January 9, 2009 and the Grand Prix- FEI World
Cup Arab League Qualifier which will be held on Saturday,
January 10, 2009.
An amount of Dh 475,000 has been earmarked as prize money for
the Dubai Championship.
The FEI World Cup Arab League Qualifier will he held this year
only in two Middle Eastern countries and the UAE will play to
three events to be held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Two
more events will be held in Qatar before the final being
staged in Las Vegas in USA in April.
As many 51 jumpers from nine Arab countries are taking part in
the Dubai event including from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt,
Libya, Syria, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman apart from
the UAE.
Some of the Category A jumpers participating in the event from
the UAE include Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum, Sheikh Shakboot Al
Nahyan, Sheikh Majid Al Qassimi, Ahmed Ali Al Junaibi, Khalid
Ali Al Junaibi, Majed Sultan Al Awani, Muftah Al Dhahir, Saif
Omar Thabet, Rashid Ahmed Al Hosani, Mohammed Rashid Al
Suwaidi, Abdullah Mohammed Al Marri, Arif Ahmed Jassim, Omran
Ahmed Al Owais, Mohammed Ahmed Al Owais, Abdullah Humaid Al
Muhairi, Hamad Ali Al Kirbi, Mohammed Abdullah Al Kumaiti,
Ahmed Abdul Rahman Ameen, Omar Ghazi Khoori, Adel Khamis Ali
Saeed and Mohammed Abdullah Ketait.
Three UAE riders from Category B who are vying in the
championship include Sheikh Ali Al Qassimi, Salim Ahmed Al
Suwaidi and Mohammed Abdullah Ketait.
The three-day championship will feature seven categories of
show jumping. The fist day will feature Welcome Stakes and Two
Phases with total prize monies of Dh 45,000 and Dh 75,000
respectively. Second day will witness Speed Stakes (Dh 45,000
prize) and Qualifier for FEI World Cup (Dh 75000). Third day
will feature Accumulator (Dh 75,000), Consolation Trophy (Dh
25,000) and Grand Prix- FEI World Cup Arab League (Dh
125,000).
The first two days the competitions will start at 4 pm where
as on the last day they will begin at 3 pm.
