THE 14th year of His Highness the President of the UAE
Championship Derby for Purebred Arabian horses will be held on
Saturday at the Moscow Race Course with some of the best-known
horses from Russia participating.
This will be second in the series being held in major European
cities and in the US. The series kicked off in Newmarket, UK
on July 9.
Organised by the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, it has
also joint support from the Abu Dhabi International Hunting
and Equestrian Exhibition, Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage
Authority, Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, Abu Dhabi Tourism
Authority and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Sorouh Real Estate PJSC is the sponsor of the race and the
distance to cover in the Group 1 event is 2000 metres. The
prize money on offer is Rouble 200,000.
The day will also witness the Abu Dhabi Serous race for
thoroughbreds which will be of a lesser distance of 1600
meters. Also a Group 1 race, again sponsored by Sorouh, Rouble
600,000 is at stake.
"This Moscow event is the second in the His Highness the
President of the UAE championship Derby which is being held in
major European cities and the US," said Sultan Abdullah Al
Marzouqi, secretary general of the UAE Equestrian and Racing
Federation on the eve of the ride.
"The UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation are organising all
these events to promote the equestrian sports further. The
Federation is not only actively involved in promoting Purebred
Arabians but also Thoroughbreds horse racing," he said.
It is widely believed these races will certainly promote the
global image of the UAE generally and Abu Dhabi in particular.
He thanked the sponsors Sorouh Real Estate PJSC for coming
forward to support the races in Moscow which will boost the
UAE equestrian activities.
Masaood Al Awar, chief sales and marketing officer of Sorouh
thanked the UAEERF for giving them a chance to be associated
with the Federation in hosting the Moscow event

expected to draw some of the top horses in Russia promising
thrilling races," he said.
